Ancillary Product Analysis 2

Poster (24th Sept)
This Poster for the film Precious is mainly symbolic and can be shown through semiotics. The main image itself is a black shadow of the main character, Precious. The colour of the shadow reflects her ethnicity and it also means being misunderstood which is basically her life in a nutshell. The cracks which sprout from an open hand tear up this shadow that is formed implying cracks in family life and her own. Because the cracks are spreading out from a 'claw' this can imply physical abuse from her family and friends making her life much more miserable linking back to the shadow, meaning misunderstood. The Orange/Brown background has a deeper meaning of craving food, vitality and endurance which can also reflect Precious' lifestyle as she is fat but is able to survive through all the criticisms and horrible lifestyle that she has been put through. However this background looks dusty and dirty so it shows that she is beginning to reach breaking point.
The text used for the awards does have its own style of writing showing off how important it is and possibly spectacular the film is.
The title of the movie is in white and looks a little dirt/broken. The name of the film aswell "Precious" reflects the target audience as its obviously a girls name meaning that the directors were hoping for a female audience. White is a colour of sincerity and pure but because it looks broken, it implies a sad life with a broken heart.
